　　一般過(guò)去時(shí)的用法

　�。�1）表示過(guò)去某個(gè)特定時(shí)間發(fā)生的動(dòng)作或存在的狀態(tài)

　　常有明確的時(shí)間狀語(yǔ)，如yesterday，last night, some years ago，in1890等，以及由when等引導的時(shí)間狀語(yǔ)從句。

　　Tom didn't come to class yesterday.湯姆昨天沒(méi)來(lái)上課。

　　We went to dance last night.昨晚我們去跳舞了。

　　-Hello! I didn’t know you were in London. How long have you been here? 喂!我不知道你在倫敦。你來(lái)多久了？

　�。�2）表示過(guò)去的習慣性或經(jīng)常發(fā)生的動(dòng)作

　　常與often，usually，seldom等表示頻度的副詞連用。

　　When I was in the countryside, I often called on my old friends there.

　　我在鄉村里，經(jīng)常去拜訪(fǎng)那里的朋友。

　　I went to the cinema once a week when I was at school.

　　我上學(xué)時(shí)每周去看一場(chǎng)電影。

　　注意：表示過(guò)去經(jīng)�；蚍磸桶l(fā)生的動(dòng)作，還可用used to 或would加動(dòng)詞原形表示。

　　When I stayed at Aunt Liu's ,she would tell me about the great changes which had taken place in the village since liberation.

　　當我住在劉大娘家時(shí)，她常常告訴我解放以來(lái)農村發(fā)生的巨大變化。

　　She used to go for a walk after supper, but now she prefers to stay at home.

　　她過(guò)去晚飯后總出去散步，但現在她卻喜歡呆在家里。

　�。�3）用來(lái)代替過(guò)去將來(lái)時(shí)

　　在條件、時(shí)間狀語(yǔ)從句中，常用一般過(guò)去時(shí)代替過(guò)去將來(lái)時(shí)。

　　They said they would let us know if they heard any news about him.

　　他們說(shuō)如果聽(tīng)到什么關(guān)于他的消息，就通知我們。

　　He promised that when he went to the bookstore, he would buy me a book.

　　他答應去書(shū)店時(shí)為我買(mǎi)本書(shū)。

　　He said he would not go if it rained.

　　他說(shuō)如果天下雨就不去了。

　　They told us that they would not leave until she came back.

　　他們告訴我們，直到她回來(lái)他們才會(huì )離開(kāi)。
